Famous Japanese artist Takashi Murakami created his own Murakami.Flowers project, with a collection of 11,664 NFT flowers extending from the artist’s long-standing “Flowers” project, which should be familiar to fans. Murakami’s well-known flowers are expressed as dot art, making one think of the Japanese TV games created in the 1970s. This fuses traditional Japanese Nihonga painting with the 8-bit aesthetics of Nintendo’s Famicom into Murakami’s recognizable “Superflat” style. The entire NFT collection works around the number 108: there are a combindation of 108 backgrounds and flower colors that make up a field, as well as 108 fields. Each field has 108 flower images, which results in the 11,664 flower images in total. You might not know this: that the number 108 refers to bonnō, or earthly temptations in English.
